Kiambu County Woman Representative Ann Wamuratha Empowers Community Through NGAAF Program
By John Kariuki
Kiambu County Woman Representative, Ann Wamuratha, has reaffirmed her commitment to transforming lives through the impactful National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) Empowerment Program. During her recent visits to Githiga and Githunguri Town Wards, Wamuratha highlighted the program’s goal of uplifting hardworking community members and fostering economic growth across Kiambu County.
The initiative is designed to support key community groups, including mama mboga, bodaboda riders, welders, bebabebas, salonists, and barbers, who form the backbone of the local economy. By providing essential tools and resources, the program aims to create opportunities, enhance productivity, and improve the quality of life for residents.
During the events, Wamuratha delivered a variety of resources tailored to meet the unique needs of the community. These included a large tent with 100 chairs for community events and gatherings, enabling residents to hold meetings and celebrations with ease. Empowerment cheques were issued to various groups, providing them with the financial boost needed to launch new projects or expand existing businesses, thus enhancing their economic stability.
To support small-scale traders and business owners, the Woman Representative distributed business canopies to protect traders from harsh weather, motorbike canopies for bodaboda riders to ensure comfort and safety, and bebabeba trolleys to simplify the transport of goods within local markets. Salonists received hair dryers and blow dryers to grow their businesses and offer professional services, while artisans were provided with a welding machine to support their trade. Additionally, sausage and egg trolleys were distributed to streamline vending operations and make them more efficient.
Speaking at the event, Wamuratha emphasized her dedication to empowering her constituents and building a self-reliant community. “The NGAAF Empowerment Program is a testament to the transformative power of grassroots initiatives. It is not just about distributing resources; it is about creating a brighter future for our people. Together, we are unlocking potential, enhancing livelihoods, and building a stronger Kiambu County.”
She urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the resources provided, reminding them that these initiatives are funded by taxpayers and are intended to transform lives. “These tools and funds belong to you, the people of Kiambu. Let us use them responsibly to uplift ourselves and create sustainable businesses that will impact our community positively.”
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, praising Wamuratha for her dedication to grassroots empowerment and her commitment to addressing the needs of Kiambu residents. Many acknowledged that the resources provided would significantly improve their daily operations and boost their incomes.
This initiative reflects Wamuratha’s vision of a prosperous and self-reliant Kiambu County, where every resident has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the region’s development.
