The national government is committed to implementing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to ensure all Kenyans have access to affordable healthcare. On Friday Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, chaired a senior management strategic meeting to review the progress of UHC implementation. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Harry Kimtai, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni, and Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth. Discussions focused on key strategies to strengthen healthcare systems, enhance service delivery, and ensure sustainable financing for UHC. The Ministry remains dedicated to advancing healthcare reforms that prioritize quality, accessibility, and affordability for all.
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Captain William Ruto (right) recently visited the Malindi Maritime Academy owned by Mount KenyaUniversity (MKU). He was received by MKU Chairman Board of Directors and Founder, Prof. Simon Gicharu. Mr Ruto praised MKU’s bold investment in maritime education, urged STCW compliance and more Rating courses, and noted KPA will benefit as staff can now train locally.
Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir on Friday chaired the Project Steering Committee Meeting in Kisii for the Waste Water Management for Lake Victoria South Program funded by GoK and KfW to a tune of KSh2.1 Billion that will be implemented in the Counties of Kericho and Kisii by the Ministry through Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency. In Kericho, KSh1.2 Billion will be invested in rehabilitation of 66km of pipeline in town, new 11km of pipeline in Belgut (Kakiptui,Kipsolu, Seretut, Belgut TTI, Ainapkoi & Chepkosilen) and 8 km in Ainamoi (Ainamoi center, Poiywek, Chemorir, Koitamat, Ketitui) to serve upto 150,000 people. For Litein, KSh500 Million will be used to rehabilitate the Itare Water supply project, a new dedicated pipeline will be laid to supply Litein town and serve upto 26,000 people and a new Feacal sludge treatment facility of 1,176 m3/day for Litein town. In Kisii, KSh500 Million will be spent on Rehabilitation and Expansion of Water Supply System for Kisii Town which include 18km pipeline replacements, 33Km pipeline extensions and 2,500 new water meters
Forestry Principal Secretary Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, together with his Diaspora Affairs counterpart Ms. Roseline Njogu on Friday launched a Diaspora Recruitment Drive at Meru National Polytechnic,in Meru County. Themed “KaziMajuu”,bthe 2-day event, sought to interview officers in different spheres, including chefs,nurses, and skilled traders, among others, to be hired globally in line of Kenya kwanza administration Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The event was coupled by a tree planting exercise in Meru Forest Station to support Kenya’s 15bn Tree Growing Programme. The PSs were joined by Meru County leadership, including Moses Kirima (Imenti Central), Rahim Dawood (North Imenti) and Rindikiri Mugambi (Buuri).
On the African Day of School Feeding, Tetu constituency marked it with an incredible achievement; Food4Education which now serves over 500,000 hot, nutritious meals daily to schoolchildren across Kenya! In Tetu, the programme, dubbed, “Chakula Moto Moto School Feeding Program” has transformed learning by ensuring that 12,000 children in all 45 public primary schools enjoy a healthy meal every school day for just KSh20. Beyond feeding our children, this initiative has created nearly 100 jobs, engaged boda boda riders for food distribution, and opened up a sustainable market for local farmers and vegetable vendors, a true community-driven success!
Area MP Geoffrey Wandeti remarked that it was joyful to join the Food4Education Nyeri team where they celebrated the milestone with the amazing cooks, riders, and servers, who brought their families together for a Family Fun Day filled with laughter, gratitude, and, of course, a cake-cutting to mark this special moment!
