Four robbers have been fatally injured, while two managed to escape, and are believed to be wounded at Marani Sub county in Kisii county.

Charles Kases, the County Police Commander of Kisii, has confirmed said that Investigations are underway to track down the escapees and recover the firearm used in the attack.

Kases said that police officers received a distress call about a robbery at a bakery in Marani Township.

Following the shootout, authorities recovered an axe and a knife from the bodies of the deceased suspects.

The items have been taken to the Marani Police Station as evidence.

In a separate incident, the commander has also confirmed significant progress in an ongoing operation targeting robberies in the Suneka area.

He said that   at around 9:50 PM, police, in collaboration with the DCI, made a breakthrough by arresting two suspects near Texas Petrol Station in Kisii Town, at the junction leading to Nyamataro and Marani.

The suspects, identified as James Ochien’g (35), the rider, and Gerald Okumu (35), the pillion passenger, were arrested after an extensive investigation into several M-Pesa agent robberies in the Suneka area.

He said that during the search, police recovered a pistol with five rounds of ammunition from Ochien’g, while Okumu was found in possession of four improvised metal bars.

The commander said that both suspects are currently in police custody, pending arraignment.

“They will face the law accordingly, we cannot leave any stone unturned,” he said.

Kases said that police have applied for some   days of detention, suspecting the criminals are involved in similar activities across neighboring counties.

The recovered pistol and metal bars have been submitted as exhibits to the Suneka Police Station.

Kases urged the public to continue providing information, ensuring confidentiality, and assured Kisii’s business community that law enforcement remains vigilant in protecting lives and property.
