A farmers field day almost lost focus after several political leaders turned their guns on the county chief.
The field day hosted by Kieni dairy farmers was held at Kanyagia at the farmers headquarters.
About 47 partners among them the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), financial institutions and a host agribusiness entities attracted farmers from accross Nyeri county as well as neighbouring Nyandarua and Laikipia counties.
A senatorial aspirant in the 2027 General Elections King’ori Wanjohi who claimed that there was currently no oversight in the county thereby giving the executive a free way in misappropriation of the devolved unit’s funds.

Alluding stories rounds in the county to the effect that the current governor Mutahi Kahiga was intent on swapping seats with Senator Wahome Wamatinga, the youthful politician cautioned residents against giving politicians the leeway to do whatever they please.
Area Member of Parliament Wainaina Njoroge dismissed the governor as a good for nothing leader who has no projects to his credit in the county.
” Sasa mtu anapea wanaume watatu vivaranga mailing, hiyo ni maeneleo gani”,(a man who gives three grown up men two chick’s is what type of leader) posed the visibly agitated legislator.
The Chief Guest, Dr Thuo Mathenge who is the chairman of KALRO took the cue accusing Kahiga of massive misappropriation of the county funds even as other governors took giant strides in development citing the Murang’a county chief Irungu Kang’ata who he said was buying avovados from farmers as well as providing them with certified seeds from KALRO.

Gavana wa Murang’a amenunulia wakulima wa kwake zaidi ya mifuko laki moja unusu ya mbegu za mahindi kutoka kwetu lakini wetu hapa ni siasa tu,”( Murang’a governor irungu Kang’ata has bought from us over 150,000 kgs of certified seeds while our own here is only politicking, fumed Mathenge.
The entrepreneur who competed against Kahiga and coming out second urged the residents to make informed choices in future and avoid euphoria.
Wainaina pleaded with his constituents not to jeer President William Ruto when he visits the constituency in the next fortnight.
“Ndamuthaitha andu always ndarehe mutongoria wa bururi ciumia igiri ciukite mutikamuinire kasongo kana mumugiririe aturehere maendeleo”, (I beseech you my people not to sing kasongo or jeer the president when I bring him here in the next two weeks) pleaded the legislator amid murmurs.
A gubernatorial aspirant John Munyiri pleaded with Mathenge to stay away from the contest come the next general elections and allow the youthful politicians like him to show their prowess.
But in a rejoinder, the seasoned politician said that much as he was intent on nurturing the youth, they also needed the experience and expertise of the elders adding that he wouldn’t mind having Munyiri or any other youthful leader as his running mate.
However, amid the din of political rhetoric, hundreds of farmers benefitted from the expertise of various exhibitors with most of them buying certified seeds.
One such exhibitor Bayer, who hace varied maize seeds sold hundreds of 2kg bags with the most popular in the area being DKC80-33 that is high yielding and drought resistant.
According to area sales promoter Justin Kinyua the variety matures within between 90- 120 days and produces on average 45 bags per acre.
