Former President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday attended a Thanksgiving mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Meru County, celebrating the recent installation of Bishop Jackson Murugara as the Coadjutor Bishop of Meru. The event brought together congregants to honor Bishop Murugara’s new role, following his appointment by the Vatican. Prior to this position, Bishop Murugara served as the rector of the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi. Uhuru was accompanied by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, former Meru Woman Representative Florence Kajuju, and former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.
Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner, David Gitonga, distributed avocado seedlings to residents during the World Forests Day celebration at Chuka Forest Station, Kiamuriuki. With the ongoing heavy rains, Gitonga warned residents in flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions. He strongly advised against crossing swollen rivers and urged those in high-risk zones to relocate to safer areas. He said that as the school holiday season approaches, it must ensured that the children remain safe and called for caution during the period to avoid unnecessary risks.

Meru County Commissioner, Jacob Ouma, has urged residents allocated forest land to prioritize growing food crops alongside tree seedlings while warning against the cultivation of illegal plants such as bhang. He also cautioned residents against using forest areas for selling or consuming illicit brews, stressing that those found engaging in such activities would face legal action.
The Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Wycliffe Oparanya, has announced the disbursement of over seven million shillings to youth, women, and persons with disabilities in Khwisero Sub-County to boost entrepreneurship and economic development.
Presiding over the issuance of funds, CS revealed that the allocations came from the Uwezo Fund (3.1 million shillings), Youth Fund (2.8 million shillings), and Women Enterprise Fund (2 million shillings), totalling 7.9 million shillings. The initiative aims to empower small businesses and drive economic growth in the region.Oparanya urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve their livelihoods and contribute to local development. Khwisero Member of Parliament, Christopher Aseka, urged recipients to invest strategically while reaffirming his dedication to mobilising more resources and driving transformative development for the constituency.
The team lead at Lifecare International Insurance Brokers, Umema Abdulhusein, has urged business owners to prioritise employees’ health and well-being to enhance workplace productivity and ensure long-term success. Speaking at an Iftar dinner event for Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) members in Mombasa, Abdulhusein underscored the strong connection between employee well-being and business performance. She cited studies showing that a company’s long-term success depends more on the well-being of its employees than on strategy or technology. According to the World Health Organisation, poor mental health in the workplace costs the global economy $1 trillion annually in lost productivity.
Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has called on semi-autonomous agencies under his ministry to harness modern technology in a bid to revitalize Kenya’s agricultural sector and boost food security. Kagwe stressed the need to adopt innovative solutions that would not only enhance efficiency but also promote transparency and accountability in resource distribution. Kagwe outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at leveraging smart agriculture tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve service delivery and enable farmers to give direct feedback on government initiatives. He underscored AI’s potential to ensure that inputs reach the right beneficiaries while minimising wastage and corruption in distribution channels. In addition to high-tech solutions, the Cabinet Secretary highlighted the critical role of modern soil analysis technology. According to him, this tool will help farmers choose the right crops and fertilisers, preventing common issues where some fertilisers end up harming rather than nourishing the soil.
The RPL Delivery Unit hosted Mr. Collins Ngige, MSME Inclusion Lead, Affordable Housing Program (AHP) to discuss on actualizing the collaboration between TVET Institutions and the AHP. The meeting held at Kabete National Polytechnic agreed on the following issues; Map out all the AHP construction sites & the required skill areas across the country to TVET institutions specifically the Qualifications Awarding Institutions; The Use of AHP construction sites for purposes of Dual Training & RPL assessment for the skilled artisans workers on the sites; Harmonization of the cost of onsite assessment with that of NITA to make it affordable and provision of RPL assessment sponsorship to skilled workers on AHP sites. The team was impressed by the TVET institutions assessment cycles and the flexibility and credibility of the TVET Qualifications. Present in the meeting was the Chief Principal host institution Dr. Patrick Muchemi and RPL Technical team.
