Nyeri County teaching fraternity endorses Ephraim Maina Kirinyaga for gubernatorial seat
Nyeri County Senator who is now seeking to be the next governor with a section of teachers

Thousands of teachers from Nyeri County have vowed to rally behind area Senator, Engineer Ephraim Maina Kirinyaga in his bid to be the next governor.
The teachers drawn from Early Child Development Education (ECDE), Primary and Secondary Schools as well as those tertiary institutions will be voting for the senator when elections are called on August 9th.
They endorsed him during a consultative meeting held at Kagumo Teachers Training College in Tetu Constituency on Monday.
Led by officials of Kenya National Union of Teachers Nyeri branch and Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers, they termed Kirinyaga as the safest person to lead the county owing to his corrupt free record and concern for the welfare of the locals.
“We the teachers of this county have confidence that our senator can lead this county to greater heights,” said Charles Gakuria.
He added that it was public information that billions of shillings have been misappropriated yet some crucial sectors like education and health have all along underfunded.
They noted that although primary and secondary education is under national government counties have a stake to play through construction of class and other amenities.
On his part, Kirinyaga observed that education sector and health are vital and thus, he would give the two priorities once he assumed the gubernatorial office.
“I want to assure you that education and health are vital sector in this county, I will work with you to ensure we restore lost glory of the country in the education sector. Further I will make sure that hospitals have drugs to take care of our people ” Kirinyaga told them.
He called on Nyeri voters to ensure that they were able differentiate leaders who can offer quality leadership at this time saying that for central region people to benefit, they must choose leaders who can take care of them especially at this time when there is no Kikuyu presidency.
“As Mt Kenya people we must take care of our people. The grassroots leaders will act as bridge between them and top leadership of this country, if not we will be underdeveloped as a region” he noted.
The senator urged the ECDE teachers not to be intimidated of losing their jobs because of their stand to throw his support towards his bid to vie for governorship.
It emerged that some teachers were receiving text messages from their officials cautioning them against attending the meeting organized by the Senator, saying the meeting was unauthorized.
Former Nyeri County Women Representative Priscilla Nyokabi who was present lauded teachers for backing Kirinyaga saying she was positioning herself to take the Senate seat from him and that once elected, she will ensure retired teachers dues are paid on time.
Kirinyaga who is contesting on Jubilee party ticket is expected to face it with the incumbent Mutahi Kahiga who will be defending under UDA ticket and several others political greenhorns.
