Sukhrob Achilov
Hello Sukhrob… you wrote the letter you are reading now to yourself five years ago. It is a sign that there is a five-year gap between us. As I write this letter to you now – with a little excitement in my heart, I will bury you with a number of questions today. Where are you now? Behind the cameras? Or on stage, telling the world the truth? Moreover, where was your article that penetrates people’s hearts published today? BBC, DW or the national press of Uzbekistan? I know that you are living the life you dreamed of and are working on an even more perfect version of yourself. This good move will push you further. Today I, 18-year-old Sukhrob, am just starting to take a step into journalism. I am striving towards the most prestigious universities in Uzbekistan: I am looking to enter the Uzbek State University of World Languages or the Uzbek University of Journalism and Mass Communications. Many people say, “Your profession is difficult,” “Your path is unclear.” But there is no doubt in my heart, I believe in myself. But my goal is not simple. I want to be not just a journalist, but an honest and determined journalist who is recognized by the people in Uzbekistan and has earned the trust of the people. My highest goal is to take my place in world journalism. Being a creative person who is not indifferent to world problems, who speaks on behalf of the nation, humanity and truth is the path I have chosen. I want to be a person who is looked up to – yes, I say it openly. But this envy should not be for popularity, it should be because of strong ideas, honest words, bold steps and thoughts that awaken the people. I am looking forward to the days when people will wait for me with anticipation, saying: “What news will Sukhrob cover today?” And believe me, you are a young man who is worth it. The articles I am writing now may not have been published on the Internet yet, but rather in notebooks. Perhaps my name is not yet known anywhere as “Journalist”. But believe me, I will not stop trying my best to live in the future we dream of. After all, there was a saying: “As long as the heart beats, dreams do not remain dreams.” Right now, I am building the future Sukhrob, taking these words as my motto. Every word I say is a brick, every article I write is a foundation. O future Sukhrob, who is turning 23, I ask you this now: Have you given up? Have you been able to become the Journalist you dreamed of, the support of the people? Have the difficulties on this path not stopped you? “Didn’t the rejected articles and the comments of those around you tire you out? Do you believe it? I can already feel that you have definitely made your dreams come true and set big goals for the future. Now I urge you not to stop. I know that you have achieved everything, because you were not alone – I believed in you. Today’s 18-year-old Sukhrob is currently going through a number of difficulties so as not to embarrass you in the future. I know that this path is not easy – but believe me, I will do my best so that you do not experience a heavy feeling of regret when you read this letter in the future. That is why I am writing to you: if you have become the most respected, most truthful, most talented journalist among the people today – this is the Sukhrob I built. Yes, I hope that many people believe in me. I am a young man who started to believe in myself at a moment when I stopped. Remember: you must become a person who can give hope to others because of your dreams, yes, as your parents and brothers used to say, “Sukhrob will be such a mature person that his name will ring out, not a microphone.” You have chosen a difficult path – but this path will make you strong. And if one day your name is mentioned alongside the concept of “Voice of the People”, I, 18-year-old Sukhrob – will say with all my heart, “I felt that.”
