The New Democrats (TND) party will join any political parties coalitions after the General Elections.
For now, party supporters are free to vote for any presidential candidate as the party has no preferred person amongst those who have declared interest in the highest office in the country.
Addressing hundreds of business community members from Karatina town, the party chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge said his party will be in the next government but will only sign a pact with the president who will be declared the winner.
“As I have said time and again, TND will not be fielding a presidential candidate. We are also not supporting any of those who have declared interest. Our position is for our supporters to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice whether it is Raila Odinga or William Ruto. The next government will be formed by coalition of political parties. Our plans is to join the President who will win and form a coalition,” Dr Thuo said.
Accompanied by his deputy Dr Esther Wanjiru Maina who he unveiled on Sunday, the industrialist said he was optimistic his party will win dozens of ward, parliamentary, senatorial and gubernatorial seats and hence they will have to be in a coalition.
He spoke to hundreds of the business community at Bantu Africa Resort along Marua-Kiganjo Road in Nyeri town constituency after taking them through some his investments in the area and in Karichen area in Kieni East Sub-County.
He also issued nomination certificates to some of the party aspirants.
The business community, impressed by the investments vowed to back Dr Mathenge’s bid to be the next governor for Nyeri County.
