- One thing is for sure you can never see drug dealer going to work like normal or sober person for them they always seem like part timers, since most of the times they will be around streets and villages in crowd which they refer to ‘mbogi’.
- When one walks around the streets especially in Nairobi, you will notice that most of the street persons are drug dealers. These people are poor, even they lack food but they can afford to purchase drugs. It is because they are addicts so after they beg for some money from people around, they go ahead and purchase drugs. The little they have is for drugs.
It is true to say that many youths nowadays are drug dealers. Drug abuse is extended on high schools among teenagers; hence head of schools were in a meeting recently to discuss on how to handle the situation. The abuse of drugs among the youths and students is prompted by various reasons in which those reasons are the ones to be looked at with a critical eye and solution gotten.
Drug dealing is not something new in our society but the rate at which young people abuse them is raising alarm. Most of the youths who are out of school are addicts of drug abuse and most of them claim reason for abusing is lack of job opportunities. These are now the influencers to students.
When students are on holidays and spend most of the time with such kind of people the end up being like them. Where they get money for purchasing the drugs is a mystery. Statistics show that more crime rates of robbery with violence are conducted by the youths which mean they use illegal means to get money and purchase drugs.

There is no issue which lacks a solution; even drug abuse has solution only if the society starts paying attention to it as a serious matter. In my opinion on controlling drug dealing among students especially high school students as they are opening schools, a test should be done to identify drug abusers in which after they be taken through counseling sessions which will aim at disconnecting them from drug dealing. Suspending them from school cannot be a solution because they will have the freedom of abusing and influence others. Also parents should be vigilant on how their children spend holidays and who their friends are, as saying goes ‘charity begins at home’.
In addition people who are offering help to street persons to avoid giving them money instead on can buy for them what they need, if it’s a snack or food or clothing etc. This is to deny them opportunity to buy drugs.
Introduction of mass campaigns of fight against drug abuse and opening of more counseling programs for drug addicts would be of great help for the youths. A country needs sober mind to develop fully.
