Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) faithful to rally behind President William Ruto and work closely with the national government to promote unity and drive development.

Mudavadi spoke when he joined President Ruto for the centenary celebrations of the PAG Church in Nyang’ori, Vihiga County.

The event brought together leaders, thousands of faithful,  and  from across the region.

Mudavadi also Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs recalled how the Church had earlier sent a memorandum requesting that the President grace the occasion.

“A few months ago the PAG Church sent a memorandum and a note that they would like you to honour and grace this particular day. I brought it to you, we talked about it,” said Mudavadi.

He revealed that even while preparing for his historic address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States President Ruto still remembered the invitation.

“Even in the middle of preparing for that speech, the President still remembered and said, ‘tell the people of PAG on 4th we are going to be there,’” he recounted.

Mudavadi praised the President’s UNGA address, describing it as a powerful speech that represented not just Kenya, but Africa.

“He spoke on issues ranging from the smallest individual to matters of cross-border and international relations,” said Mudavadi.

He commended the sermon delivered by the guest preacher from Uganda, describing it as “a triple A rating sermon, very well delivered and communicated.”

Mudavadi urged the Church to use its knowledge, influence, and talent to support the President’s agenda.

“You are powerful, you have the knowledge and the know-how. Kenya and the world need your talent. The President needs your support. Please don’t be shy in giving him that support,” he said.

He cautioned against taking peace for granted, noting that chaos and disorder had once forced the Ugandan preacher to seek refuge in Nyang’ori during the 1970s.

He called on Kenyans to work with the President, who is actively involved in regional peace initiatives in the Horn of Africa.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also defended the President against negative publicity, saying it takes courage and commitment to continue serving despite daily criticism.

“It takes a lot of courage and commitment for somebody to wake up after such slogging. Let us work with the President,” he stated.

Quoting American author Thomas Paine, Mudavadi said, “If you argue with someone who has renounced reason, it is like administering medicine to the dead.”

He urged Kenyans to embrace reason and logic to achieve jobs, food security, affordable housing, education, health, and infrastructure.

The clarion call from leaders at the celebration was for the Church to partner with the national government in order to improve development and uplift communities. They emphasized that faith-based institutions play a vital role in complementing government efforts through education, healthcare, and moral guidance.

Leaders also addressed ongoing tea reforms in the region and East African sector reforms, noting that the government remains committed to ensuring fair earnings for farmers, better management in agricultural cooperatives, and increased regional trade integration.

Mudavadi commended President Ruto and Raila Odinga for coming together despite past political rivalry, describing their cooperation as a decision of reason and logic, not convenience.

He further lauded the PAG Church for its role in empowering women, noting that it has the highest number of ordained women about 2,800 of any religious grouping in Kenya.

The centenary celebrations marked 100 years of the PAG Church’s presence, growth, and impact in shaping Kenya’s faith and community development landscape.
