The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to build a future-ready workforce and strengthen succession planning for the next generation of tax administrators through the reintroduction of Graduate Trainee Programme. The programme, anchored at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KeSRA), aims to accelerate digital transformation in tax administration, deepen institutional partnerships, and empower the next generation of tax revenue administrators. Speaking during the 22nd KeSRA Graduation Ceremony themed “Future Ready: Enhancing Digital Skills for Simplified Revenue Administration,” KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga underscored KRA’s commitment to invest in people development as an integral component to KRA’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.

A drug courier’s daring attempt to slip into Kenya with a stomach full of cocaine ended at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, after sharp-eyed Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives intercepted her moments after landing. The drug peddler, 34-year-old Muli Ayan Ndunge, had just touched down from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when detectives, acting on precise intelligence, quietly closed in. She was escorted to the ANU offices for observation, and within minutes, the truth began to spill out, as she emitted 14 pellets of cocaine. Knowing there was more, detectives maintained a tight watch, and soon another 14 pellets followed, bringing the tally to 28 pellets, weighing 912.74 grams valued at approximately Sh3,650,960 in the streets. Widows from Bomachoge Borabu Constituency in Kisii have a reason to celebrate after receiving over Sh3 million to support their livelihoods through a widows’ empowerment initiative. The programme, dubbed Kikao na Wajane, was spearheaded by area MP Obadiah Barongo and supported by other leaders during a fundraising event held last Friday. Barongo said the initiative specifically targets widows, recognizing them as among the most vulnerable members of the community. Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who also attended, encouraged the widows to rebuild their lives despite the loss of loved ones.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale yesterday held a bilateral meeting with a delegation from Apollo Hospitals led by Mr Dinesh Madhavan to explore partnerships aimed at strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system. The discussions focused on capacity building, support for clinical trials, and expanding advanced cancer care programmes, including specialised interventions such as proton therapy. The Government will leverage Apollo’s technical expertise to enhance cancer centres and build skills in neurology, CyberKnife services, kidney transplant training, cardiac care, and paediatric surgery certification and training at KUTRRH. The CS also updated the delegation on ongoing health sector reforms, including the digitisation of healthcare and the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), all geared towards improving access to quality, patient-centred services. He was accompanied by the Director-General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth, and the Ministry’s Director for Curative and Nursing Services, Dr Andrew Toro.

Traders operating from Ndunyu market in Mahiga ward,  Othaya constituency were yesterday relocated to pave way for construction of a modern market. Area MP Wambugu Wainaina through his foundation,  named after him facilitated the exercise so that the construction of the KSh70 million market could commence. The MP said, “This will be a major milestone in my efforts to improve infrastructure and boost economic activity in our Constituency. Upon completion, over 150 traders to benefit from a modern market with smart stalls, sanitation and digital payment systems. The modern market is one of the three that are being set up in the area, courtesy of MP’s lobbying to president William Ruto’s government. Also being built is a modern stadium that will host facilities for several outdoor and indoor games.
