The National Lands Commission led by CEO Kabale Tacho Arero yesterday joined Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku for a major milestone in strengthening land rights in the area. The Commission issued certificates of lease and letters of allotment to residents, marking a transformative step for families who have long awaited formal recognition of the land they occupy and depend on. Working closely with the County government, the National Land Commission processed the letters of allotment that form the foundation of the leases issued yesterday. In an unprecedented effort, the Commission completed more than 8,000 letters of allotment at once, the highest number ever done in a single initiative demonstrating its renewed commitment to accelerating tenure security in support of the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. The Commission has also processed 124 reservations of public land for public institutions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged governments to increase domestic funding and integrate HIV services into broader health systems, warning that declining resources threaten decades of progress in the fight against AIDS. Globally, an estimated 40.8 million people live with HIV, including 610,000 in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, where annual new infections have nearly doubled in less than a decade. Yet fewer than four in ten know their status, and less than a third are receiving treatment in the region. WHO Regional Director Dr. Hanan Balkhy stressed the need for innovative approaches, stronger prevention, and community engagement, noting that HIV is now a manageable chronic condition when properly treated.
