Ruto celebrates Thika High 70 Years, announces major expansion of learning facilities
President William Ruto on Friday praised Thika High School for its seven decades of academic and sporting excellence, describing it as a key institution in shaping leaders who continue to contribute to national development.
Speaking during the school’s 70th anniversary celebrations, the President said Thika High has consistently produced top-performing students and influential alumni serving in government, business, academia and other sectors.
He noted that the institution’s legacy reflects its commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also discipline, character and leadership.
“To ensure Thika High continues to nurture that calibre of professionals and leaders, we are expanding the tuition capacity,” Ruto said.
He announced plans to construct 35 new classrooms, a 1,000-bed dormitory and a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 2,000 students, aimed at addressing rising enrolment and improving learning conditions.
Education stakeholders present at the event welcomed the move, noting that infrastructure expansion remains critical in supporting Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) rollout and easing congestion in national schools.
The Head of State also encouraged students to take advantage of the school’s strong academic and co-curricular foundation to prepare for future leadership roles, adding that education remains central to Kenya’s transformation agenda.
The anniversary brought together alumni, education officials and local leaders, who reflected on the school’s historic contribution to shaping the country’s human capital over the past 70 years.
