Residents of Chuka/Igambango'mbe Constituency attend public participation forum for 2026/2027 budget at Chuka Picnic Grounds.

Residents across Tharaka Nithi County have called for increased investment in water, healthcare and road infrastructure during public participation forums on the proposed KSh7.66 billion budget for the 2026/2027 Financial Year.
The public participation exercise, led by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), was conducted across the three constituencies of Tharaka, Maara and Chuka/Igambang’ombe, attracting hundreds of residents who turned up to present their views and development priorities.
The proposed budget seeks to finance county operations, deliver essential services and implement development projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents.
Out of the total allocation, KSh5.01 billion (65.5 per cent) has been set aside for recurrent expenditure while KSh2.64 billion (34.5 per cent) has been allocated to development projects.
According to the budget estimates, the county expects to raise KSh5.12 billion from the equitable share, KSh1.89 billion through conditional grants and KSh650.5 million from own-source revenue.
Health emerged as the biggest beneficiary, with the Department of Public Health and Sanitation receiving KSh1.40 billion and Medical Services allocated KSh1.30 billion.
Roads, Infrastructure, Public Works and Urban Development has been allocated KSh1.01 billion to support road construction and maintenance projects across the county.
Other significant allocations include KSh574 million for the County Assembly, KSh562 million for Public Administration, Intergovernmental Coordination and Devolution Affairs and KSh474 million for Agriculture, Livestock, Veterinary Services and Cooperative Development.
Residents who spoke during the forums emphasized the need for improved access to clean and reliable water, upgrading of roads to enhance connectivity and markets and strengthening healthcare services through better-equipped facilities and adequate staffing.
The Department of Environment, Mining and Natural Resources has been allocated KSh425 million, while Education, Vocational Training and Culture will receive KSh375 million.
Water Services and Irrigation has been allocated KSh285 million, with Energy and Industry receiving KSh275 million.
County officials said public views collected during the forums will be considered before the budget is finalized and approved, underscoring the importance of citizen participation in shaping development priorities.
The proposed budget reflects the county government’s focus on strengthening healthcare, improving infrastructure, supporting agriculture, expanding access to water, enhancing education and promoting economic growth across Tharaka Nithi County.
