A packed Githunguri rally signals the former deputy president is building serious electoral infrastructure in the Mount Kenya heartland β even from abroad
By James Kimani
The Democracy for the Citizens Party yesterday took its grassroots campaign into Kiambu County, drawing a substantial crowd at Kwa Maiko in Githunguri Constituency in a public engagement led by party official John Methu, as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continues his political mobilisation from the United States.
The rally underscored the speed at which political organisation is intensifying across the Mount Kenya region, ten months before August’s general election. Methu told the gathering the party had heard residents clearly, pledging that their support would not go unrewarded.
“We have heard you clearly. You are solidly behind DCP. We will not let you down,” Methu told the crowd.
Gachagua, addressing supporters remotely, reinforced the message from abroad. “Our commitment to listening to you, always, remains strong. My DCP Party team called, and you answered,” he said.
The Githunguri engagement follows a pattern of intensive grassroots outreach designed to convert regional goodwill into organised political capital ahead of the campaign peak. With President William Ruto’s camp equally active across Kiambu, the county is fast emerging as the sharpest electoral battleground of 2027.
The ground is shifting β and both sides know it.
