Diaspora Affairs PS combines infrastructure delivery with community engagement in Meru County visit
By Waithaka Kariuki
Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu yesterday visited Buuri in Meru County, engaging residents on water access, agricultural productivity and livelihood opportunities in a visit that combined infrastructure support with direct community interaction.
At the Naari-Nturukume Water Project, Njogu delivered eight-inch water pipes to support efforts to extend supply to hundreds of households and strengthen irrigation capacity for local farmers. She also supported the Mbaaria Water Project with additional pipes, an intervention expected to boost water access and support onion farming in the semi-arid area, where reliable water supply is essential to agricultural production.
At a public meeting in Mbaaria, Njogu interacted with residents, listened to their concerns and distributed maize and bean seeds to support ongoing farming activities. The gathering also provided a platform to discuss opportunities in dairy farming, agriculture and overseas employment under the government’s Kazi Majuu initiative.
Residents welcomed the interventions and expressed appreciation for the government’s engagement with their community.
The visit reflects a broader approach to public service that pairs infrastructure delivery with grassroots engagement, with a focus on addressing practical needs and creating sustainable livelihood pathways. The water projects, farm inputs and employment discussions represent tangible interventions with the potential to support household incomes and strengthen community resilience in Buuri.
Sustained investment in water infrastructure, agriculture and employment remains central to translating the Ruto administration’s development commitments into measurable benefits for citizens at the local level.
