The government has been urged to put more efforts to ensure that the cost of living comes down so as to give people a comfortable and affordable way of life.
Hezron Gachui Riabai ward MCA in Kiambu subcounty speaking while donating foodstuffs to over 100 families for christmas said that kenyans are lamenting every day over the high cost of living and the government should act swiftly and ease the burden.
“Kenyans are complaining and as leaders and government we need to hear out our people and put up measures of ensuring the people are living a comfortable life,” Gachui said.
He said that Kenyans do not want to be given handouts but want to be empowered with jobs so that they can fend for themselves.
“If we address the issue of unemployment, people do not have to be given handouts since they are already empowered,” he said.
He said that many people do not have something to put on the table for Christmas and well wishers neighbours and friends should look out for each other so that the less privileged can also enjoy the festive season.
‘Let us put a smile on those who do not have during this festive season. Those with something to give look out for your neighbour or family who do not have,” he said.
Pastor Irene Benjamin of Deliverance church and a well wisher called on the government to look at the less fortunate, elderly and sickly during the festive season so that they too can have a good festive season.
“We are calling on the government, especially the Kiambu county government to go to the villages and extend a hand of compassion to those who do not have,” she said.
She said that despite the cost of living being high and unemployment still being a major challenge in the country things will get better and Kenyans should be optimistic and hopeful for better days ahead.
Jane Wamukonye, a resident said she is grateful to the donations as her family will celebrate Christmas as she had no plans of celebrating as she did not have anything to cook.
“I have been given flour, cooking fat, rice, sugar, tea leaves, salt, bar soap which means alot to me since I did not have anything for Christmas and I thank our MCA for thinking about those who do not have. this is a blessing,” she said.
Joseph Kimani said that Kenyans of goodwill should come to the aid of the less privileged since some are in dire need of being helped and have no one to turn to.
“The at of compassion extended by our leader should be reciprocated by others who have so that we be our brothers keeper during this festive season,” he said.
The residents however called on the government to address the unemployment issue which has led to kenyans being broke and hence unable to fend for themselves.
