Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris joined hundreds of Kenyans at Ulinzi Sports Complex Sunday for the Walk for One Million Steps for Dignity and Inclusion, adding her voice to a campaign seeking to raise one million bales of diapers for people living with incontinence.
Passaris walked alongside Isaac Mwaura, head of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Disability Rights in the Executive Office of the President, in a show of solidarity with individuals and families whose daily struggles with the condition frequently go unnoticed.
“Every step today was a reminder that dignity is not a privilege; it is a right,” Passaris said.
For those living with incontinence, access to diapers touches directly on hygiene, health, mobility and confidence. The financial burden on families providing regular supplies can be considerable, a reality the campaign brought into sharp public focus.
“Building an inclusive society requires all of us to play our part in ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind,” Passaris said.
The walk also served as a platform for breaking the silence around a condition that many affected individuals and families find difficult to discuss openly. Campaigns of this nature can shift public attitudes, encouraging understanding over stigma.
Passaris’s presence alongside Mwaura underlined the value of aligning elected leaders, government institutions and disability-rights advocates around issues central to the wellbeing of Kenyans.
The message from the walk was clear: dignity belongs to everyone and building an inclusive Kenya is a shared responsibility.
