Kiambu, Kenya – October 2025
Kiambu County Woman Representative Ann Wamuratha has called on young people to seize the opportunities offered by the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, a government-led initiative designed to equip youth with skills, mentorship, and startup capital for economic empowerment.
Speaking at a sensitization forum held at Kiambu National Polytechnic, Wamuratha was joined by Dr. Salome M. Beacco, CBS, Principal Secretary for Correctional Services, alongside national and county officials, administrators, and youth leaders. The event aimed to raise awareness about the NYOTA Project and mobilize youth participation.
“The NYOTA Project provides a real opportunity for our youth to acquire skills, access mentorship, and start viable businesses. It is about turning potential into productivity and hope into opportunity,” said Wamuratha.
The NYOTA Project, backed by the World Bank and implemented under the leadership of President Dr. William Ruto, seeks to improve youth employability, expand job opportunities, support savings, and strengthen employment systems. These goals will be achieved through training in socio-emotional and business development skills, mentorship programs, and provision of startup capital.
The second phase of applications opens tonight at midnight and will run until October 12. Youth aged up to 29 years, and persons with disabilities up to 35 years, are encouraged to apply.
Wamuratha emphasized that youth empowerment is key to building a prosperous and inclusive Kiambu, urging stakeholders to support the initiative through outreach and awareness efforts.
