Worth Noting:
- Base Yetu which has been promoting talents and vision for the young people across the country has been calling for inclusion of Pool Game in learning institutions’ sporting activities.
- After the Saturday tournament, the firm Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nick Mararo said the move will help the students not only in critical thinking but also exploring various talents amongst the youth.
- Mararo said with the participation of foreigners it was evident that the game could no longer be taken for granted and he reiterated his call for it to be recognised and considered like other games.
- He has also been agitating for the funding of the game just like the way government does to other sporting events like football, athletics, and volleyball among others.
It started in a very small way but it has now gone out of Kenya’s boundaries.
This is Pool game that has for long been associated with all sorts of vices.
But courtesy of Base Yetu, a private entity, the game has not only become a darling to many Kenyans, but it is going beyond our borders.
This was made bare on Saturday when a number of its players from Uganda and Tanzania took part in tournament hosted in Eldoret town.
And a foreigner from Uganda, Erick Koech emerged the winner to the chagrin of Kenyan players.
Though it came out as disappointment to the Kenyan players, it emerged as a wake-up call and a positive challenge to local players and the government as well as its partners to invest more in sports and specifically, support the pool games to enable Kenyan players to compete with their counterparts across the region and beyond.
The Saturday tournament was graced by hundreds of players and fans led by Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi who also took part in friendly games with other guests and players.
The tournament sponsored by a private entity; Base Yetu saw a total of 70 winners take home cash plus other prizes.
Also specially prized were Best Lady player Marion Kasike who also received a cash award.
The overall winner took home with Sh30,000 with the 70th best player receiving Sh500.

A week ago, Base Yetu organized the third leg of the pool tournament in Eldoret town where scores of players competed for various prizes.
Previously, two other tournaments had been hosted in the same venue, Foxys Wagon Wheel Hotel in the last three weeks.
Before the tournaments start, Inspector Mwala has been leading other artists and entertainers in sensitising Eldoret residents in particular and Kenyans in general on the need to embrace Pool game as a sporting activity like they do to football, volleyball, darts, netball and athletics among other games.
Pool game is by the day becoming popular among people of all ages, but is mostly loved by the youth.
Base Yetu has in the recent past organized such interactive tournaments in various parts of the country.
Youths support Mararo’s call for the government to invest in the game saying it another way of actively and positively engaging the young people most of whom are jobless.
