I twice read a book
A small square book
With pages that had saluted time
Brown, like baked barns
Or is it yellow?
Yes, the colour in between.
The book smelt frozen ash
With small fonts
And big commanding words
One’s used by Shakespeare
And his pen associates.
The book, one I read
Had delicate voice
Appealed in charming phrases
Words of patting our backs
Full of mind
For the past world
And unending centuries to come.
