Brian Mokua Mogambi, a 20-year-old from Kenya’s Nyamira County, knows what it’s like to face seemingly insurmountable odds. Born into poverty and raised by a single mother after the loss of his father, Brian has experienced the struggles that come with limited resources and little support.
Despite the obstacles, Brian refused to let his circumstances dictate his future. Instead, he worked tirelessly to pursue his education and create a better life for himself and his family.
Brian first encountered the difficulties of poverty during his primary school years at Gesura, where he often struggled to afford school fees and basic necessities like food. But with the support of his mother and his own determination, Brian persevered and went on to perform well on his KCPE exams, scoring a C+.
However, after completing primary school, Brian’s future was uncertain. His family couldn’t afford the fees for him to attend secondary school, and his future looked bleak. But Brian’s mother refused to let him give up. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family and pay for Brian’s education, and her sacrifices paid off when Brian was accepted into St. Peter’s Nyakemincha High School.
Though he faced financial difficulties throughout his time at St. Peter’s, Brian never lost sight of his goal. He pushed himself to perform well in his studies, and his hard work paid off when he earned a B- on his KCSE exams.
With his secondary school education now complete, Brian was accepted into Mount Kenya University, where he is currently pursuing a degree in journalism and mass media communications. His journey has been difficult, but Brian is determined to continue striving for a better future, not just for himself, but for his family and community as well.
Brian’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. Despite the odds stacked against him, he refused to let his circumstances define him and instead chose to fight for a better life. He serves as an inspiration to us all, proving that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.”
