The mountain region caucus that brings together ten counties held its first meeting since the recent General Election yesterday.
The meeting, convened at Windsor Country Club in Kiambu county saw participants calling for sppeding up on actualization of its main objective that adviced its formation.
The caucus, fondly known as Central Region Economic Bloc (CEREB) was attended by senior counties officials led by Governors and their deputies.
Also in the meeting that was chaired by Nyeri County Governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga were representatives drawn from Danish Embassy, CKDN, WB, Amref, Cooperative Bank and FCDO.
Counties are drawing budgetary support and development support from these donors directly which is the preferred mode of operations.
The broad objective of establishing CEREB is to leverage on economies of scale in the region, including shared resources such as Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares, in order to improve the livelihoods of people in these counties.
During the round table consultative meeting some of issues discussed were areas of partnership, linkages and relationships between our counties and the mutual benefit of the counties that will help them be sustainable and self-sufficient.
Through the cohesion of the Bloc Nyeri and Laikipia formed joint committees to harmonize cross border issues on revenue collection and shared services.
Govenor Kahiga and his Laikipia counterpart Joshua Irungu noted that in line with the mission of CEREB which is To promote sustainable regional socio-economic development for the welfare of citizens, they will ensure that they realize the full potential and attain high quality life for our Bloc and its citizenry.
