The developers of the Multi-billion Konza City have been urged to adequately brand the technopolis to attract more attention, and showcase the milestones so-far made. While undertaking an inspection tour of the project, members of the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation noted that the project has so far consumed billions of shillings with very little physical proof of the accomplishment.
“Put the brand out there, do not allow brand Konza to be swallowed by its subsidiary projects like Jitume. Let the world see the vision in images, starting from the outlook of the project site,” urged the Committee chairperson and Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie.
He outlined the need to prioritize the flagship programs within the Technopolis as it will set the pace of faster uptake by potential development partners.
“There is a massive expense already undertaken in the vertical development even before the horizontal uptake. We have witnessed great milestones in the development of utilities like fibre, water, electricuty. This means the project is ready for take-off.” Said Kiarie.
The Committee committed to champion efforts to ensure that the Nation Assembly prioritizes Konza as one of the key priority projects to be funded in the next budget cycle.
According to the MPs, the operationalization of the tier three data centre, conference centre, among other complemented parts of the project will encourage more investors to come on board.
The Konza management team led by the Chief Executive Officer John Paul Okwiri highlighted budget constraints and understaffing as some of the bottlenecks to their delivery of their mandate.
