School Feeding Programs
Ministry of Education complains about budget reduction from 5 billion to three 3 billion which may hinder school meal programs leading to concerns about nutrition in schools and the food programs may stop.
Education Ministry officials communicate on the program being slashed due to limited resources. These feeding programs have benefited more than 2.6 million students. These programs are of importance from the students to their families back at home.
Families may strain to provide food for students who were being previously being provided for by the government which may lead to food insecurity back at home.
Studies also show that school meal programmes are linked to better school attendance and academic performance. Cutting off the food programme will surely reduce the attendance of students in schools.
Immediately the school food programmes are stopped this may lead to cancellation of such programs in some parts of the country leaving many students without meal support. These school meals should also not be looked down to because they play a crucial role as sources of nutrition to students.
The budget reduction can have a dangerous effect that impacts nutritional well being of students and also educational outcomes.
