The Democracy for the Citizens Party Friday opened its Kiambu County headquarters, with party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua making a high-profile appearance in the county in what the party billed as a statement of organisational intent ahead of the 2027 general election.
Peter Mwathi, the DCP Deputy National Chairperson and Limuru parliamentary aspirant, led the reception for Gachagua at the newly opened offices, underlining his growing prominence within the party’s national structures.
The opening of a permanent county office marks a notable step for DCP as it works to translate national political messaging into organised local presence. The facility is intended to serve as a regular point of contact between party officials, members and residents of Kiambu.
John Mwaura, the party’s flagged gubernatorial candidate for Kiambu, featured prominently alongside Gachagua at the event, signalling the party’s efforts to consolidate its leadership ticket in the county ahead of the next election cycle.
Kiambu’s political weight — drawn from its large population, active business community and agricultural base — makes it a priority county for any party seeking national reach. DCP’s decision to anchor a permanent structure there reflects an awareness of that strategic value.
Mwathi, who has built his political profile in Limuru around accessible, consultative leadership, used the occasion to reinforce that message. His role in the DCP national hierarchy has positioned him as a conduit between the party’s central leadership and communities in the Mt Kenya region.
The party’s “Skiza Wakenya” campaign theme, prominent at the event, frames DCP’s appeal around citizen listening — a posture Mwathi has made central to his own political identity.
