There should not be any delay in addressing the demands of Gen Z by the Kenya Kwanza government, Democratic Party of Kenya says.
The issues raised by this young generation can be resolved promptly.
In a statement made by DP National Chairman Esau Kioni, the party said it fully supports Gen Z’s calls to the government.
“Nobody should ignore what the young generation is demanding. President William Ruto should take action and come up with a solution before the country faces further turmoil,” Kioni emphasized.
Speaking to journalists in Nyeri, Kioni stated that Gen Z is justified in holding peaceful demonstrations as they are fighting for their future and urged the president to listen to their demands and respond appropriately.
“These are educated young men and women, well-informed globally. That’s why we, as a party, support their peaceful demonstrations. Unfortunately, some individuals have been hired to undermine this noble cause,” Kioni said.
“We need action from the president, as he has shown with his cabinet. It’s detrimental for some leaders to engage in underhand tactics while the nation is in crisis. Demonstrations are allowed as long as they are peaceful and do not lead to the destruction of property,” the chairman said.
In matters of politics and leadership, the chairman stated that as a party, they are waiting to see how the President will form the next Cabinet.
“One should be thoroughly vetted before being appointed to the Cabinet, and this should be done by intelligence services. By doing that, it will minimize rampant corruption in the ministries,” the chairman said.
“The president has promised to come up with a new Cabinet, and we hope he will not constitute it like the former one, as he never consulted our party members after the general elections in forming his Cabinet,” Kioni continued.
“In developed nations, after each election in a coalition government, the Head of State sits down with other coalition members to draw policies and form a caucus that will come up with the Cabinet,” said Kioni.
“In this matter, as the DP party, we have no idea what the Kenya Kwanza government has been doing. Immediately after the elections, we were unable to meet the head of state to even offer him a congratulatory message,” Kioni added.
Kioni, who was also a security adviser to the late President Mwai Kibaki’s government, said, “The DP party is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition. We are like any other party, but we have never been given time to even have a courtesy call with the president. What we only know is that the president appointed Justine Muturi as Attorney General from our party, and now he is out like any other Cabinet member.”
