The Dignified Future Football Tournament against alcohol, drugs and substance abuse under the office of the spouse of the Deputy President (OSDP) is gearing up for the semi-finals.
The Nairobi Chapter tournament that is taking place in Dagoretti South Constituency now has four teams that shall face off in the semifinals – The Bridge FC, Wazalendo FC, Slow Burn FC, and Sikai Sana FC.
Pastor Dorcas Rigathi encourages boys and men in the country to engage in sports and games and keep off the psychoactive substances contained in alcohol, cocaine, heroine, cigarettes, and bhang among other substances.
“The man is the seed carrier. The boy child program, under my office, is engaging them in football to advocate against alcohol and drug abuse. This is a preventive measure, and a curative measure,” said Pastor Dorcas.
The Bridge FC beat Kaa Sober FC 3 goals to two goals in an electrifying match that attracted fans to watch the reformed men in play. At the 90th minute the teams had a draw of 2:2 that was broken with Bridge FC’s goal in the extra time.
During the second match of the quarter finals, Wazalendo FC made a definite win, scoring 3 goals within the 90 minutes of play against Chini ya Mnazi FC. Wazalendo FC had an exciting first half when all the goals were scored with Stephen Juma scoring in the 16th minute, Amos Kimani 38th minute and for the third time, Wazalendo FC found the back of the net at the 40th minute of the game, a goal scored by Hesbon Irungu.
The game between Kirigu Reform FC and Slow Burn ended with no goals at the final whistle, and they were unable to break the tie of nil goals during the extra time. The teams went into penalties when Slow Burn FC beat Kirigu Reform FC with 5 penalties against 4 penalties.
The final game in the quarter finals was between Sikai Sana FC and Royal FC who also went into penalties, and Sikai Sana FC won with five of their penalties finding the back of the net against Royal FC 4 penalties.
The Dignified Football tournament semifinals will continue in the coming days with the last four teams participating – Bridge FC, Wazalendo FC, Slow Burn FC, and Sikai Sana FC.
Some of those participating are part of the boy child rehabilitation program under the OSDP.
