Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday launched two key projects in Nyeri town.

The two, semiconductors making system and Free Internet for market traders and bus park operators are expected to boost employment in the county.
The DP, in the company of Cabinet Secretaries Ezekiel Machogu (Education) and Eliud Owalo (ICT) as well as a host of local leaders first visited Dedan Kimathi University of Technology where he launched Ol’Borana, one of the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing systems designed in Africa.
He described Ol’Borana as a system that speaks into the potential and promise of Kenyan innovators and what they can achieve if given the right support.

Gachagua encouraged young innovators, especially those in institutions of higher learning to take advantage of the available opportunities in the technology industry to showcase their ideas and incubate them for the sole purpose of providing practical solutions to our societal challenges noting that such innovations will bear fruits in providing solutions to agriculture’s food insecurity, climate change, and loss of biodiversity, among others.
Immediately after leaving the university, the DP and his team travelled to Nyeri town where he presided over the launch of a free Public WiFi Hotspot that will serve the residents and businesses in the town.
“This internet hotspot is a game-changer aimed at helping traders grow their businesses through e-commerce targeting market traders, food suppliers, and transporters.
The Nyeri internet hotspot project is part of the countywide planned hotspots that are geared towards President William Samoei Ruto’s Administration digital transformation,” the Deputy President observed.
CS Owalo said the Kenya Kwanza Administration is prioritizing the internet to the citizens in line with pledge for universal access interest where it intends to establish 25,000 Hotspots across the country.
The free internet hotspot will boost trade and entrepreneurs are encouraged to take advantage of the project as well as the Hustler Fund to boost your businesses.
Apart from the two Cabinet Secretaries, the DP was accompanied by among others, area Governor Mutahi Kahiga, his Deputy David Kinaniri, Senator Wahome Wamatinga Wamatinga and Women Representative Rahab Mukami.
Others were Members of Parliament Duncan Maina (Nyeri Town), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), John Kaguchia (Mukurwe- ini) and Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni).
