Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday presided over the 11th graduation ceremony for Nyeri County based Outspan Medical College.
During the colourful ceremony held at the college’s ground, 356 graduands were conferred with various Diplomas and Certificates for the various courses they were pursuing.
The DP congratulated the graduands and challenged them to further enhance their skills.
He also lauded the County Governments for their efforts in the Health sector since it is a devolved function, highlighting that the National Government is keen to increase Health budgetary allocation.
He said the Kenya Kwanza Government was keen on increasing the budget allocation for health to at least 15 per cent of the budget as per Abuja declaration.
The college is an affiliate of Outspan Hospital which is owned by others Dr Macharia Kiruhi.
Dr Kiruhi and the college Principal Lydia Muthoni said the institution which is certified by all relevant bodies has been producing first class graduates in the fields that it offers courses.
Rigathi was accompanied by among others, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Wafula and area governor Mutahi Kahiga.
On his part, Governor Kahiga expressed his delight being part of a fraternity that envisions to train globally competitive medical professionals.
He congratulated the graduands for their determination and hardwork which has culminated into the momentous occasion and challenged them to uphold the ethical values acquired as they endeavour to serve with diligence.
The governor said his government will continue to partner with the Institution in offering of internship placements to their students, who have been equipped with relevant trainings.
The Health CS while congratulating the graduands lauded the Institution for bridging the gap in the health sector, especially in light of shortage of medical practitioners across the globe as stated by the World Health Organization.
She also called upon residents to register under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme to ease their access to health care services.
Others present included Members of Parliament Duncan Maina Mathenge (Nyeri Town), Wambugu Wainaina alias Mt Kenya (Othaya), Njoroge Wainaina alias Chieni (Kieni), John Kaguchia (Mukurwe-ini), Geoffrey Wandeto (Tetu), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), Rahab Mukami and Senator Wahome Wamatinga among others.
Also present were Deputy Governors David Kinaniri (Nyeri), Stephen Munania(Murang’a), Energy Principal Secretary nominee Alex Wachira alias Wa-Total and Nyeri businessman Daniel Wamahiu.
