Dr Ruto started on a positive footing in tackling adverse effects of climate change

- Well, for the GMOs, I have been listening to the arguments of those opposing the lifting of ban.
The world is currently preoccupied with the debate on climate change and its devastating effects to lives of the people and other living creatures.
Here in Kenya, the ravaging drought is rated as the worst in the past 40 years. Taking note of the fact four million Kenyans were facing starvation, the new government of President William Ruto is working very hard to address this perennial problem.
Our motto is that we do not want to lose anyone to hunger. A time has come for us to think outside the box and deal with this problem once and for all. Besides harvesting rain water, we shall also avail funds to construct dams and drill boreholes, Dr Ruto stated as he flagged off Lorries ferrying relief food to the affected counties.
A few days later, the first cabinet meeting he chaired at State House Nairobi resolved to lift a ban on Genetically Modified Crops [GMOs].
Looking at the numerous reports of research conducted in recent years, Kenyans have no reason to worry. The GMO foods were safe for human consumption.

This is why I disagree with them. So far I have not heard them justifying their position by citing the research work done in recent past.
Yes, initially there were health concerns raised and the popular argument stood as; the government should give priority to quality and not quantity.
I’m sure the companies that had conceived and were in process of rolling out this bio-technology across the world learnt some good lessons.
I’m therefore persuaded to believe that those concerns have since been addressed. If you think otherwise, please give us evidence.
It does not make much sense to tell us that the government of President Mwai Kibaki had banned GMOs. That was then.
For now, GMOs are being grown in many parts of the world, including Europe. I’m yet to hear any research showing it is the root cause of the cancer-related deaths.
So, our ‘experts’ should stop making comments that cannot be authenticated. If you don’t like President William Ruto, look for something else more convincing to wage your war.
Bear this in mind. Hunger is a matter of life and death. It cannot wait. So, Dr Ruto is on the light course. Let us support him.
