Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu has petitioned opposition Members of parliament in the Gusii community to forget their political differences unite and work with the government.
The Cabinet Secretary revealed that he took some Members of Parliament and governors to President William Ruto to negotiate for the community’s development, adding, some were reluctant.
“We are rooting for the community’s unity and development. I am ready to work with all leaders for the sake of the community’s development” Machogu said
The Cabinet Secretary was speaking at Mobamba Mixed secondary school, Nyaribari Masaba constituency, Kisii County during prize giving-cum fundraising for Mobamba mixed secondary school.
He urged the area Member of Parliament, Daniel Manduku, elected through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to support president Ruto’s government.
The Cabinet Secretary recalled that Manduku was Ruto’s supporter but joined ODM, stressing, he tried to lure him to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in vain.
Machogu assured school Heads that the government will send funds for capitation to schools next week to ease the school’s operations, adding, 30,000 teachers will be employed once the economy improves.
He lauded the school’s performance in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination, stressing the government will improve infrastructure to boost the performance in national examinations.
The Cabinet Secretary, accompanied by Kisii County Director of Education, Philp Chirchir, and the school’s Principal, Dr George Ogochi said the school had school’s 348 candidates qualified to join universities and had a mean of 9.28, stressing, it was possible to push it to 10 this year.
Manduku said he has given education a priority and will fight for the students to attain good grades to join universities to exploit their potential.
The Mp said he has tabled a Bill in parliament to amend the Teachers Service Commission ( TSC) Act to review the promotions of teachers to enhance fairness.
“I am going to champion the promotion of teachers nationally. I want the promotions to be based on design” Manduku said.
Ogoch said the school has 2018 students and 37 teachers and urged the government to post more teachers to the school, adding, the school requires 83 teachers to cope with the high number of students
