Tens of street children and those from slums in Embu Town were treated to an Easter Festivities party by a private Technical and Vocational Training Institute (TVET).
Wanjau Technical and Vocational Training Institute staff and students shared a meal and bonding session with the less fortunate children at ACK Diocese of Embu Rescue Center for street children and adult education.
Besides the meal, the street children were also given a session of grooming where those willing were given a shave.
“We found it befitting to give and share the little we have with the less fortunate at a such a time the world is celebrating the love of God who gave his Son Jesus to be crucified to save humanity,” said Institute Director Ms. Agnes Wawira.
She appealed to others to embrace the culture of sharing with the destitute to enable them also live a dignified life, and asked the community to take care of these vulnerable minors to safeguard the generation of tomorrow.
She hit out at those who sell drugs such as sniffing glue to street children, saying the act was only serving to ruin their lives and prospects of making it in life. “If you cannot sell drugs to your children, don’t do it to others,” the Director said.
Gilbert Njeru who runs a charitable organization dubbed, “Moving Mountains Kenya” that is the main sponsor of the rescue center, appealed to authorities to help eliminate the menace of drugs among street children.
He also called on other well-wishers to come on board and assist them take care of the needy children.
