Embu Water And Sanitation Company Counting Losses In Theft And Vandalism

Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO) is counting losses of up to Sh5 million in the last two months following theft of meters and vandalism of sewer line covers.
EWASCO Managing Director Dickson Njiru said the vice was rife in Dallas, Majengo and Blue Valley Estates leading to a huge uproar from their customers following disruptions of water services.
Besides financial losses, Njiru said the vandalism had also affected relationships with their clients especially when theft of meters occur as it is them (customers) who bear the cost of replacement.
Speaking during a press briefing at the company offices located in Embu Town, Njiru said vandalism of sewer line covers had also put the lives of locals in grave danger of falling into open drains.
He said they had contacted the police to assist them nab the culprits and also appealed to members of the public to assist them by reporting perpetrators to relevant authorities.
“We cannot allow service delivery to our customers to be hampered by vandals,” warned the MD, saying those apprehended will be prosecuted.
The MD also called on scrap metal dealers not to support the illegal trade by purchasing full or parts of the said water fittings.
