The collaboration between Rongo University and the University of Portsmouth marks a pioneering venture to tackle critical issues surrounding climate resilience and sustainability through concerted teamwork. Recognized as a pivotal achievement by the British Council, this partnership aligns with the overarching vision of the UK-Kenya university partnership initiative, exemplified by the launch of a forward-thinking Learning and Design Lab.
Under the steer of the British Council, the inaugural round of grants has been bestowed upon esteemed institutions, including Rongo University, Nottingham University, University of Portsmouth Business School, Strathmore University, Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine, and Kenya College of Accounting. Moreover, Circle Innovation has been entrusted by the British Council to spearhead the implementation of the transformative Learning and Design Labs program.
Monica Blagescu, Head of Education at the British Council, Kenya, emphasized the importance of empowering youth in addressing climate change, underscoring the role of collaborative partnerships in fostering sustainable solutions. The Learning and Design Labs contribute to improved student outcomes and promote internationalization of education, strengthening connections between Kenya and the UK.
The primary objective of this initiative is to cultivate a conducive milieu for cross-border collaboration among institutions and individuals. Through fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, the program endeavors to fortify the bonds between UK-Kenya Universities and industry stakeholders, thereby nurturing a cohort of adept leaders poised to confront contemporary challenges and foster sustainable development.
This alliance promises to address pressing environmental concerns and empower future leaders with the requisite expertise and resources by harnessing the collective expertise of Rongo University, the University of Portsmouth, and industry partners.
Through hands-on experience and mentorship from industry luminaries, students are poised to develop innovative solutions that can pave the way for a more sustainable future.

The Learning and Design Lab, scheduled from 13th to 17th May 2024 in Nairobi, will bring together students from the University of Portsmouth and Rongo University. Ultimately, this collaborative endeavor aspires to shape a world that is not only sustainable but also prosperous for generations to come.
