A group of former freedom fighters have supported a government initiative aimed at Implementating a policy that enacting the duties of Village elders.
Mau Mau War Veterans Association urged the government to sped up the process of implementation saying it would be greatly beneficial to descendants of the former fighters who did not get an opportunity to go to school as their parents were either in prison or in the forest fighting for independence.
Led by James Njuguna Mahuria, the former fighters and some of the descendants who have been have sensitization meetings in Kitale town said the Policy would create a new dawn in the country.

Yesterday, Principal Secretary for Interior Dr Raymond Omollo led government officials and other stakeholders in a consultative meeting in Nairobi.
The meeting dubbed, “National Validation Forum on the Draft National Government Village Administration Policy and Draft Regulations for the Establishment of Administrative Units” was aimed at receiving views on the upcoming and setting up of new National Government Administration Officers unit.
The Mau Mau group was represented by Evans Okumu who was also one of the Kitale meeting facilitators.
Stakeholders gave their views on the National Government Coordination Act that was signed by the late Kibaki in 2013.
Mahuria said the initiative to have the village elders roped in the official administration lineup was started by the late President Mwai Kibaki and hoped that his vision on the same would fully be put into consideration.
He said his group has since 2023 been enlightening it’s members on the same adding that he was happy it’s culmination was nearing.
He said his group was optimistic that the Village elders would from the next financial year start receiving KSh7,000 each, every month as proposed in the policy.
Another initiative started by the former President was the enactment of Public Benefits Organization which replaced Non-Governmental Organization Council.
Through the PBO, the law changed drastically with former freedom fighters hinging on it to receive compensation.
