Foundation For Dialogue (FFD) Holds A Forum On Validation Of Standard Guidelines For Referral Of Survivors Of Violent Extremism

An organisation that sensitizes Kenyans on the dangers of terrorism yesterday convened a forum on validation of standard guidelines for referral of survivors of violent extremism.
Foundation For Dialogue (FFD) through Accelerated Response in Violent Extremism (ARIVE) program aims to strengthen Nyeri’s County Engagement Forum capacity to coordinate and implement the devolved National Strategy on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) through the Nyeri County Action Plan.
The validation workshop took place at the Cultural Centre near Nyeritown, where the standard guidelines for referral of survivors of violent extremism were validated.
Foundation For Dialogue is the lead CSO in the Nyeri County Engagement Forum involved in the development and implementation of the Nyeri County Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism since 2019.
One of the interventions is trauma therapy to ensure that survivors of Violent extremism are assisted and have better chances of recovery and healing from trauma.
The process of guidelines development involved the following; Identification of Psychosocial Service Providers (PSPs) and Technical government staff, Capacity building for PSP and government technical staff, Drafting guidelines by a technical committee, and Consultation of guidelines for referral of victims of Violent extremism.
During yesterday’s forum, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s speech was delivered by the Legal Advisor Beatrice Maina where he noted that the County Government will continue supporting programs to improve the welfare and livelihood of the people in the area.
It will work closely with key partners and departments of special programs to develop a database of resources to support referral and support for survivors of violent extremism, particularly psychosocial counseling and in the future, create a rehabilitation framework for victims of violent extremism, their families and community of survivors and the county which also bears the brunt of the loss. He noted that the his government will work with the CEF to integrate interventions aimed at resilience building to make the area safer and more secure.
During the forum, FFD was represented by among others Njenga Miiri and Dr Michael Mugo.
