This happened after a successful engagement on Wednesday by all aspirants from the region with the party, where according to Dr. Mutai, they debated, agreed and approved returning officer sent by the party to oversee the nominations in Kericho, the time of voting, materials to arrive in time and allow individual chief agents to receive the materials before starting the nomination exercise.
“We believe all shall be well in the nominations and we have faith in our elections board to conduct this exercise fairly. We expect presiding officers to be trained before nominations and ballot papers to be sufficient in order to have a smooth exercise,” Mutai said.
UDA is expected to have the most contested elections in the region as witnessed by many aspirants vying for different positions campaigning to be nominated in the party.
Beatrice Kemei (Mama Yao) who is vying for Kericho Women representative position said they got assurance during the meeting from the party headquarters to have transparency during elections by having the 6 returning officers swapped to work in different constituencies from theirs so as to tone the main areas of concern which is free and fair nominations.
“As aspirants we feel satisfied and hope that all shall be well with the nominations. We all agreed that peace will prevail during and after nominations and we will come together, those who will lose, having lost fairly, will remain in the party and support the winners,” Kemei said.
Kemei urged Kericho residents to turn up in large numbers on the 14th to nominate their preferred candidates as the voting is expected to start at 7 am and end at 5pm.
The meeting was chaired by UDA Kericho Returning Officer Mike Kutoh, who said that they held the meeting to consult and map up the way forward so as to make sure to have credible nomination, and he assured the aspirants of satisfiable nominations without hiccups.
