Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has received former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Francis Kigo Njenga at a high-level consultative meeting, praising him as a tested and trusted leader whose previous service left a lasting mark on the constituency.
Njenga, who is among the aspirants seeking the DCP ticket for the Gatundu North parliamentary seat, presented a detailed account of his growing political network and his ongoing efforts to popularise the party across the constituency. The party leadership commended his structured approach, energy, and evident connection with the local electorate.
Gachagua was fulsome in his praise. He described Njenga as a formidable political figure with a clear understanding of constituency needs and a proven record of delivery β a leader, he said, whose time in Parliament was defined by accountability, transformation, and development that put people first.

The DCP leadership assured Njenga that the party remains firmly committed to free, fair, and transparent nominations, scheduled for the first quarter of next year. The assurance is significant at a time when internal nomination disputes have begun to surface within DCP, with some early loyalists expressing concern that the party’s ticket allocation is being influenced by factors beyond merit and grassroots support.
Gachagua has sought to calm such tensions, insisting that the party’s nomination process will be credible and competitive. The meeting with Njenga appeared designed, in part, to reinforce that message β that DCP’s doors remain open to experienced leaders who bring both a track record and a genuine constituency base.
The former Deputy President has been positioning DCP as the primary political vehicle for Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 general elections, a strategy that has drawn both new entrants and internal friction in equal measure. Managing that tension β between rewarding early loyalists and accommodating popular new faces β remains one of his most delicate political challenges.
Njenga was further described as a unifying figure in Gatundu North, with the capacity to mobilise support across different demographics. The party expressed confidence in his ability to restore faith in transformative leadership at the constituency level.
DCP has framed its broader mission around amplifying the voice of ordinary citizens, strengthening grassroots structures, and promoting leadership anchored in service delivery, integrity, and genuine responsiveness to public need. How well it lives up to those values in its own nominations process will be closely watched by aspirants, voters, and political observers alike.
