Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

- Besides, Kenya made great strides in the field of Information, Communication and Technology [ICT]. Taking advantage of friendly business environment, Safaricom, giant mobile service provider, rolled out digital money transfers, popularly known as M-Pesa. The number of Kenyans enlisted to mobile phone services increased in a big way.
- It is however worth to note this transformation was taking place in the whole world. President Kibaki ensured that Kenya is not left behind.
- So, of all the other presidents who had led our country since independence, Kibaki is rated as a great leader and top performer.
Since the new government of President William Ruto assumed office, I have been following closely the speeches made by the second-in-command Rigathi Gachagua aka Riggy-G.
The most popular one is where he has been reiterating that the plan of the Kenya Kwanza administration is to return Kenya to where President Mwai Kibaki left.
To him, the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta failed Kenyans and so, there is nothing to cerebrate about it. Allow me to reserve my comments about this topic.
However, I want to agree with Deputy President’s take that Kibaki left a great mark. He revived our economy that has been run down and this helped him to initiate mega development projects and oversee implementation.
The businesses thrived and it was also during his tenure that Boda Boda business started.
Besides, Kenya made great strides in the field of Information, Communication and Technology [ICT]. It is however worth to note this transformation was taking place in the whole world. President Kibaki ensured that Kenya is not left behind.
So, of all the other presidents who had led our country since independence, Kibaki is rated as a great leader and top performer.
Given this background, one thing remained clear. Kibaki’s shoes were too big. So, did Gachugua’s promise stood to bear any fruits? Well, for me is to wish Dr Ruto’s administration the very best.
I know his critics will not agree with me because their main agenda is not champion the interests of ordinary Kenyans but rather to play cards meant to unseat him.
During the campaigns, Dr Ruto minced no word in selling his bottom-up economic model and as a result he managed to convince majority of Kenyans to back his candidature.
While hitting out at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner and favored presidential candidate Raila Odinga, he would tell them. The duo has contributed immensely to the challenges you are facing. This is because they hailed from the rich families and none of them or member of their families has ever slept hungry.
For me, I’m a son of a hustler. So, I carry your dreams of lifting you from yoke of abject poverty if you elect me.
To send the point home, he would at times invoke the name of former president Mwai Kibaki. He was a great leader and I intend to run this country as he did.
With this, then one can understand why Gachagua firmly held that position.
I have been monitoring the steps that President Ruto has taken so far. This is a leader who is ready to walk the talk and moving forward to fit in the shoes of Mwai Kibaki. The success of Ruto, however, depends on support he receives from the other arms of the government.
When he spoke in Nyeri recently, he singled out parliament and judiciary. As the head of the Executive, I’m prepared and ready to play my role. In same breath, he stated; I would expect the two arms to support me.
For Gachagua whose position is created by the constitution, he has been reiterating that as a principal assistant to the President he is ready to walk this journey with him. I would always help my President to realize his dreams. I would expect Gachagua to keep his word.
