Gallant Murang’a son’s led by Wakili Mbiyu Kamau, ACCPA Official Mwangi Macharia, Municipal Board Member Clement Kamau are pushing compensation for thousands of Delmonte victims in Murang’a, Kiambu and Machakos counties.
The team is drafting the proposal to push the three counties to adopt pineapple farming and supply them to Delmonte.
One pineapple goes at KSh100 and thus, it will be more profitable than coffee and tea combined.
The American government funded multinational is said to be willing to allow farmers to grow pineapple based on the current emerging issues.
Pineapple outgrowers program is seen to be the cure for current high level security conflicts between residents and guards which has led to deaths of countless people in the three counties.
Like Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome who earlier represented hundreds of victims of Delmonte in court in early 2000s, Mbiyu Wa Kamau is a human rights lawyer and Kandara political leader who is seen as a potential Member of Parliament for Kandara in 2027 for his free representation of thousands of victims mostly from the constituency.
Amongst those who have endorsed pineapple outgrowers program is Farmers political party leader and Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) chairman Irungu Nyakeera who says the Lower Muranga will be official crop if both USA and Kenyan Government adopt that proposal.
