Businessman and Nyeri County gubernatorial aspirant Dr Thuo Mathenge says he has a valid degree certificate to enable him run for the seat.
Dr Mathenge graduated with a bachelor in Business Administration from The Presbyterian University of East Africa in 2019 and will therefore not be relying on a certificate from a neighbouring country which was invalidated by the High Court in 2013.
On Saturday, the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebutaki said Dr Mathenge would barred from contesting over the court ruling but added that he would be cleared if he had another valid degree certificate.
Following the announcement,Β Dr Mathenge called a press conference at his Bantu African Resort where he clarified that he has since acquired the required valid degree certificate from the Kikuyu based university.
He disclosed that on May 23, he presented his documents as required to IEBC and will be seeking clearance today.
Dr Mathenge added that he has nominated another running mate Ms Mary Gathoni Kihara after it emerged that his earlier nominee did not resign from her government job by February 9 as required by law.
He presented to the media and some of his supporters present the new deputy governor nominee who coincidentally hails from the same area, Iriaini in Mathira as his former nominee.
