1).Who are you?
– My name is Ignatius Letswalo, I’m a Maths & Science tutor as well as meme comedian. A goal oriented and hard working young man with a goal of owning a big tutoring company to upskill young individuals whom are passionate and want to achieve their goals.
2). Where are you from?
– I’m from South Africa, Gauteng province in Pretoria (Mamelodi)
3). What is your profession?
– I am a comedian, who uses placards to speak to people and also a Maths & Science tutor.
4).Tell us more about your memes?
– I mostly use situations that my generation went through growing up and what we facing currently to create most of my jokes, they come from pain and I write them down. I usually write offensive posts that happen to encourage and motivate people, to help them accept who they really are and accept situations they cannot change. I help most to be okay and fully be happy with whatever they have. Some are educational and some build confidence, most are relatable to show others that they are not alone and everything is going to be okay in the end, help them to not give up and gives them hope. I myself wearing gowns and my shades teaches others to do whatever they want, be comfortable with whatever they wear and to show people what you can do without fear, confidence and positivity.
5).What inspired you to write memes?
– It all started during the hard time of covid-19 pandemic lockdown wherein I was bored and had nothing to do. I used to post jokes now and then on Facebook and whilest I was going through my Facebook memories I came across a joke I made a while ago about people who wake up in the morning wearing gowns and sleepers with a cup of coffee on their hands going to check their parked cars outside kicking tyres to check if things are okay, people started laugh when I posted wearing the same doing the same. I then started asking how it would be if I kept the image and started writing my funny posts on placards, people started laughing saying I’m full of myself now and those kind of discouraging words but I looked at myself in the mirror and said if I do what people want me to do I won’t be happy nor achieve half of the things I want life. I did it anyways, and my 3rd meme started to trend, got people sharing in other countries too, getting celebrities sharing my memes, calling me for meetings and gigs too and that’s how my career as a comedian came about.
6).Do you have fans? How do you react to fans?
– Yes I do have fans, I interact with my fans and I learn a lot from them. I always make sure that I listen more than I speak with them.
7).Are you involved in any community service?
– Yes, I’m a voluntary Maths & Science tutor at IkamvaYouth since 2017, I help learners with their homework’s/assignments and also to prepare for their tests/exams and I mentor some of the learners too. The year 2019 I was recognised as the best tutor of the year also an Outstanding Collaboration and Peer Support Innovation award in 2020.
8).How did your faith help in marketing your craft?
– Yes, I believed in myself before I could even publish my first meme, I always been positive and always been ready for anything I encountered. I always had faith and believed in my craft before anyone else could. Confidence that came with it played a huge role before the eyes of everyone who witnessed my craft and everything it came with, set an example and set a platform for those who have potential but never the guts to showcase to the world, many shared what I do and it took me to stand my ground for people to share my craft to others setting an example that they can also do it, and that helped marketing my craft.
9).What is your future plans?
– To build my own tutoring practice and also to work with brands such as Woolworths, Chicken Licken, Nandos, Coca Cola, McDonald’s, Savanna etc.
10).Encouragement to up upcoming comedians, what can you says?
– Follow your heart, whatever that you think is possible, do what you love that makes you happy, changed your mindset. Engage more with people with positive mindset, read books and always be informed, have the spirit to learn new things, you don’t get in life what you want but you get in life what you are. Develope your communication skills because once you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are.
