The incumbent Kisii woman representative Janet Ong’era the brave, bold and energetic leader has vowed to defend her seat for the second time under ODM party.
Journey in politics
Ms Ong’era said that she joined politics 2004 during the referendum and was life party member of KANU during that time.
Speaking with the Mt Kenya Times Reporter, Ms Ong’era said that the journey in politics is so interesting when you have a passion and being loyal to the public and fulfilling the promises .
According to her she was company secretary/managing director at Kenya Airport Authority and she left work during the change of regime by Mwai kibaki and went back to school to study

At the age of 12 years she was mentored by his late brother in-law Zachary Anyieni and they used to accompany him on his campaigns.
The journey in politics has been successful in her life as Kisii woman representative.
The Year 2013 she was nominated as Kisii senator under ODM ticket.
The year 2017_ 2021 she vied for Kisii woman representative and has served for the one term.
She is now going to defend the seat for the second time under ODM ticket.
Achievements
Ms Ong’era has empowered self help groups by giving them grants through Affirmative Action Funds.
She has sponsored quite a number of needy students to various vocational Training centres and bursaries to the vulnerable students.
She sponsored Boda boda riders to attain driving licences.
She donated a number of tanks both primary , secondary and tertiary institutions.
She has completed GBV rescue centre awaiting to be officially opened by the president.
Challenges
In Gusii region they look leadership from patriarchal side, women have not been given space to fight for their space.
“The only thing you fear in politics is when the sky start falling on you, “she said.
Ms Ong’era says that challenges women face they cut across the all the world, Stereotypes impression that women cannot be leaders, cultural barriers among the kisiis .
“When I was campaigning I faced a lot of stereotypes, some used to ask me where is my family, children, male competitors politicians tried to fight they feared that one time I will go for the higher post which will challenge them, but I endured all such abuses, “she said.
She adds that that male dominance, Stereotypes in women perceived to belong to kitchen, branding of women of people with loose morals, abuses, not upright and lack of resources .
Endorsement
During Ong’eras thanksgiving event held at her residence in Kisii, Kisii incumbent governor James Ongwae endorsed her to defend the Woman representative seat.
On his part, Mr Ongwae said that he has confident that Ong’era has skills and virtues what a leader is supposed to have.
“We have confidence with Ong’era she can’t fail the county,”she said.
The county boss challenged voters to make the right decision on whom they vote as leader.
Mr Ong’era urged the voters to vote for her and calls for a peaceful campaign and election.
She calls the public to vote for wise visionary leader who can bring development in the county.
The leaders under Azimio vowed to rally behind Raila Odinga and ensure that he becomes the 5th president of the republic of Kenya.
Ms Ongera was issued a direct ticket by ODM to defend her seat for the second time .
