Interior CS Murkomen Pledges High-Tech Boost for DCI During First Official Visit

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made his inaugural visit to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering crime fighting efforts through advanced technology and enhanced investigative capacity.

During his address, Murkomen underscored the critical role of the DCI in maintaining national security, especially in the face of evolving criminal threats.

“The DCI is a key cog in our security infrastructure. Advances in technology have made crimes more complex and transnational in nature. To ensure the safety and security of our people at all times, the DCI must always be ahead of the criminals,” he stated.

He also thanked the Inspector General of Police, his deputies, and the Director of the Directorate here of Investigations for the work they have done , to professionalize investigations of crimes in the country.

“ I have had an opportunity to engage the team that works under the DCI, and I’ve gotten to the bottom of many of the issues that are being handled here. As you very well know, the National Police Service, through this Directorate, is doing a lot of work to keep our country safe, and a lot of work here is to deal with high crimes, to deal with issues of terrorism, narcotics, among others,” added Murkomen

To strengthen the agency’s ability to tackle sophisticated crimes, he  announced that the government would fully operationalize the National Forensic Laboratory.

“Government will prioritize the National Forensic Laboratory,  which is expected to significantly enhance forensic investigations, allowing law enforcement agencies to leverage scientific advancements in solving cases, “announced Murkomen .

Additionally, the interior CS revealed plans to revamp the National Criminal Investigations Academy to equip detectives with modern skills and expertise.

“To meet the current technological and scientific demands of investigations, the government will fully operationalize the National Forensic Laboratory and revamp the National Criminal Investigations Academy to enhance the capacity of our investigators,” he affirmed.

This visit,  highlights the government’s recognition of the increasingly complex nature of crime, including cybercrime, financial fraud, and cross-border criminal networks. Murkomen emphasized that equipping law enforcement with cutting-edge technology and continuous training is paramount in staying ahead of criminals.
