Joy As Hundreds Of Nyeri County Government Workers Receive Promotion Letters

Nyeri County government has formalised promotion of hundreds of its employees in different departments.
Area governor Mutahi Kahiga on Friday oversaw handing over of the promotion letters to 939 members of staff.
The promotion awarding ceremony was also witnessed by among others his Deputy David Kinaniri and area Senator Wahome Wamatinga.
While every department was represented in the promotions, a majority of those promoted were from the Health Department, which the governor attributed the move to a bid to improve the health sector by incentivizing staff who laboriously cater to Nyerians.
The exercise was orchestrated by the Department of County Public Service with the CECM in charge Peter Macharia expressing the department’s commitment to improving the staff’s welfare.
“Promotions offer career advancements and professional development, recognition, and validation, financial rewards, job satisfaction and engagement, and a chance to take on leadership roles among other perks,” the governor noted.
He disclosed that his government awarded promotions to all staff who were due as of 30th November last year and had met all the set promotion criteria by the County Public Service Board which is chaired by Paul Kimondo.
“The workers’ contributions, dedication, and zeal have seen Nyeri continuously ranked among the best-devolved units with a streak of wins to its belt, none of which would have been possible without the industriousness of our staff, and the support of the Nyeri citizenry,” the governor said, adding, “Our robust workforce has helped our government execute its mandate and deliver, even as we strive to improve further on this front,”.
He expressed optimism that the staff will increase their productivity and continue propelling Nyeri forward.
The Deputy Governor David Kinaniri highlighted that the 939 staff promoted constitute a quarter of the Nyeri workforce and more will be promoted accordingly in due course.
The board chairman noted that there was a huge backlog of workers who had stayed without being promoted, some going back to a decade, with the board CEO David Ruga affirming that more promotions were underway.
Senator Wamatinga lauded the county government for the commendable initiative.
Members of Nyeri County Assembly Gibson Wahinya, Kawanjiku Kawanjiku and Kariithi wa Wambui who also graced the occasion at Wambugu Farmers Training College reiterated their support and dedication to enhancing a harmonious relationship with the executive, even as they carry out their oversight role.
Other senior officials present included County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio, Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, CECMs Abdi Hanif (Transport) Margaret Macharia (Education), Dr. Joseph Kiragu (Health), Robert Thuo (Finance) and Frederick Wanjohi (Water). County Attorney Rucuiya Kimani, Chief Officers, Advisors, Directors and others officers, various union officials were also present.
