Worth Noting:
- “If we are going to be successful in the fight against corruption and instilling values among our people, we must encourage intolerance to any form of corruption, and disassociate corruption from morality,“ said Bishop Oginde.
- He also added that If there is any silver bullet to consider, EACC has to first of all work towards transforming the thinking of Kenyans towards corruption, and urged for patience in the expectations of instant positive results.
- According to him, despite there having been no visible changes/success during the tenure of his predecessor Bishop Eliud Wabukala, the Clergyman appealed to Kenyans to give him a chance and not view the role he will perform from a religious perspective.

The Department Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs yesterdat undertook the approval hearings for the Nominee for the position of Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Bishop Dr. David Oginde.
“The whole process of fighting corruption and promoting integrity has to be a collective effort involving all of us”.
These were the sentiments of Bishop Oginde as he appeared before the committee chaired by George Gitonga Murugara from Tharaka Nithi county.
The nominee emphasized the need for a change in attitude among Kenyans, as the first step towards combating corruption.

Members of the committee sought to find out what he brings to the table if appointed, to which Dr. Oginde noted that the commission has two major roles of preventing and combating corruption and promoting integrity.
“If I do get the opportunity to come in, I come as a fellow Kenyan who has certain concerns and beliefs that I can make certain contributions that can help us as Kenya to attain freedom from perennial corruption” he said.
The nominee also noted that the commission hasn’t worked much on promoting integrity amongst Kenyans and institutions, and this would be an area he would want to work on extensively, to ensure that Kenyans take the fight against corruption as a personal and collective responsibility and not a commission’s responsibility.
“The human being is naturally corrupt. We have to work towards transforming the thinking towards corruption and build an understanding that corruption is bad for the country.” Said Dr. Oginde.
The nominee also appealed to Parliament to put in place legislations that will ensure that high level corruption cases are expedited and necessary measures executed within the shortest time possible.
He also called on legislators to support the commission with sufficient resources to enable EACC to deliver its mandate effectively and also challenged all leaders in different sectors to be champions of integrity and values.
Dr. Oginde who has a wealth of knowledge in leadership, is currently the Vice-chairperson of the Executive Board of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) , and the President of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa, East Africa region. He also holds a PHD and Master of Arts in Leadership.
The Murugara-led committee will be preparing a report that will be tabled in Parliament by Tuesday next week to enable the house to consider the matter within statutory timelines.
