The Kenya Cup Defending Champions Kabras Sugar Rugby Club will be playing Thika Road based KCB Rugby Club in a 2022/2023 Kenya Cup Finals on Saturday, 11th March 2023 at Kakamega Showground
The Sugarmen will be very careful to defend the title they won in the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup final against Menengai Oilers while The Bankers aim to down the defending champions who will be at home ground.
When the two sides met a fortnight ago, Kabras ended KCB’s unbeaten run, winning 29-23 and Katywa expects a response from the bankers.
Kabras cruised into the finals after securing a 20-8 win over Kenya Harlequins while KCB 38-20 was enough to silence Menengai Oilers and get a finals ticket.
Kabras secured the top place in the table for the consecutive year with unbeaten run in the regular season gaining 52 points while KCB finished in the second place with 51 points with their only defeat coming from Kabras this season (29-23)
Saturday’s The Kenya Cup final is the 16th overall Kenya Cup clash and 6th final between fierce rivals Kabras Sugar Rugby Club and KCB Rugby Club with KCB Rugby Club dominating.
Kabras Head coach Carlos Katywa believes Saturday’s Kenya Cup final against KCB will be won on physicality, defence and execution.
The South African believes his charges have to win in those areas if they harbour ambitions of defending the title they won last year.
“Finals are very tricky moments for both teams but if we can keep our cool win the physical battle, defend well and execute in attack then we will the title,” he added.
On the other side, KCB Rugby Club skipper Curtis Lilako had the following “It comes down to mentality and who can handle the pressure well. Defense and execution will also play a key role if we can get it right,”
“We have had a good run, some beautiful games, some tough ones but we are grateful that we are into the finals. I urge my boys not to lose focus and continue with this spirit to ensure we finish this season with the trophy.” Curtis Lilako Said.
