As many anticipated during the Kenya Secondary Sports Association ,the sports field was packed to the brim during the zonal sports champions which was held over the weekend at Sitotwet playing grounds in Kapsoit , Kericho County.
The fierce battle of six secondary schools in Kapsoit zone which turned up for the zonal games favored Kapsoit secondary to win in football, volleyball and netball games
The football pitch at Torit grounds where Kapsoit smashed nine points after beating Kenegut day four goals to nil win football league.
Supreme Kiprono sent fans into frenzy after opening the scores inside the first 15 minutes when he guided the ball into the net after a series of team build-up passes.
Five minutes later, Philemon Ekai doubled the scores as Kapsoit took a comfortable 2-0 lead with less than half an hour played.
In the final half, they jumped higher than the Barding defense to head in Kapsoit third goal by Kiprono and later Ekai challenged Kiprono on the Fourth Goal.
On the other hand Kapsoit beat Kenegut 49 -30 in Girls’ Netball on Saturday afternoon final match to claim the Zonal champions and send a message to the competition that it means business as they proceed to Sub County Competitions.
On the volleyball matches Moi Sitotwet lost to the giants in a one set full play where the losses didn’t accept the defeat of the first match and furthermore didn’t turn up for the two sets.
According to interview with spectators who were present in the filed who didn’t want their identity to be revealed said the Sitotwet players were incited by the outsiders not to accept the defeat .Efforts to know genesis of this matter wasn’t clear since the head Coach denied to talk to press after the match was over.
Kapsoit head Coach Kipkoech Ngetich said the winning has set a base to the players as the head to the next competitions where he challenged the students to show case their talents especially in sports so as to excel in both academic and sports.
“The players gave their all today against a very tough opponent. We executed our game plan accordingly and I am happy that despite a few instances of errors, we were crowned as Zonal Champion.
Kapsoit Zonal Secretary Shadrack Kirui,a teacher at Kapsoit secondary was overwhelmed with joy after their team was announced as the champion winners . ‘I do appreciate the players who showcase their talents in various sports activities and in the long run has given us a winning ,as the schools we are looking forward to capture the sub county title and to the national since we believe in the power of our training we offer to our players,’ Kirui said.
