Kenya Power employees based at the Kitengela Branch held a peaceful demonstration yesterday protesting the assault on one of their own by Kitui East Legislator Nimrod Mbai.
The workers marched from their offices to the Kitengela Police Station, condemning the attack and calling for the immediate arrest of the MP.
In a video that went viral, the legislator is seen insulting and slapping the Kenya Power officer who had gone to disconnect an illegal power connection at his residence at Acacia Estate in Kitengela town.
Residents of Acacia Estate had complained about frequent power outages, prompting the visit by KPLC, which established the illegal connection to the legislator’s home.
The KPLC workers called for justice to be served, adding that attacks on officers while at work had become a common occurrence.
The MP who was being sought by the police presented himself at the Kitengela Police Station and is expected to be arraigned at the Kajiado Law Courts.
